{"id":820,"date":"2019-01-13T23:56:01","date_gmt":"2019-01-13T23:56:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/blog\/?p=820"},"modified":"2023-05-03T12:55:10","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T11:55:10","slug":"one-week-left-to-buy-gap-insurance-policies-underwritten-by-uk-general-insurance-on-behalf-of-great-lakes-insurance-se","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/blog\/2019\/01\/13\/one-week-left-to-buy-gap-insurance-policies-underwritten-by-uk-general-insurance-on-behalf-of-great-lakes-insurance-se\/","title":{"rendered":"One week left to buy GAP insurance policies underwritten by UK General Insurance on behalf of Great Lakes Insurance SE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Midnight on <strong>January 21st 2019<\/strong> will mark the beginning of the end of our time spent working with GAP insurance policies underwritten by UK General Insurance Ltd (UKG) on behalf of Great Lakes Insurance SE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late 2018 UKG announced that January 21st 2019 would be the last day that they&#8217;d accept new policies on cover and that their live policies would go in to a &#8220;run-off&#8221; phase &#8211; e.g. all live policies will be honoured until such time as they&#8217;re either claimed on, cancelled or they naturally expire but no new policies would be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, November 2018 saw us launch a new range of <a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/contract-hire-gap-insurance.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Contract Hire<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/invoice-gap-insurance.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Invoice<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/replacement-gap-insurance.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Replacement GAP insurance<\/a> policies underwritten by <a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/gap-insurance-uk-insurer.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DTW 1991 Underwriting Ltd on behalf of Syndicate 1991 at Lloyds of London<\/a> (DTW).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the UKG policies out of the picture and DTW employing in some cases considerable more strict eligibility criteria than UKG, there&#8217;ll be a number of not-insignificant changes deployed from <strong>January 22nd<\/strong>, including the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The maximum timescale for buying GAP insurance will reduce from 365 days after taking delivery of your vehicle, to <strong>90 days<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The maximum duration for <a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/invoice-gap-insurance.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Invoice<\/a> and\/or <a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/replacement-gap-insurance.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Replacement GAP insurance<\/a> policies will reduce from 5 years to <strong>4 <\/strong>years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There will <strong>no longer<\/strong> be the ability to defer the start date of your GAP insurance policy &#8211; even if your motor insurer covers you on a new-for-old basis in the first year (<a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/blog\/2019\/01\/01\/the-perils-of-new-for-old-cover-v-2\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"740\">though you may not wish to do this anyway given recent &#8220;trends&#8221;<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/replacement-gap-insurance.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Replacement GAP insurance<\/a> will <strong>only<\/strong> be available for brand new vehicles at first registration &#8211; meaning used, pre-registered and\/or ex-demo vehicles will all be <strong>excluded<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vans, car-derived vans, motorhomes, camper vans and a number of specific vehicles from a range of manufacturers including (amongst others) Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Subaru and Volkswagen will all be excluded from cover &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/gapinsurance.co.uk\/excluded-vehicles.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see here for a more detailed list<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re seeking GAP insurance for a vehicle you bought more than 90 days ago, or a policy for which you wish to defer the start date (e.g. if your motor insurer covers you on a new-for-old basis in the first year &#8211;
